THE SIERRA LEONE COURT SESSION, A PLAY GROUND, MARKET PLACE, OR A JOKING SESSION?
‘’IT is a Pity for any country or a Society, whose leadership is devoid, Blind and totally removed away from, not only its Integrity, but its due Responsibilities , Attitudes and Manners, especially in the line of its duties mandated or conferred upon it. It is worst, but becomes terrible, when they are seasoned with much Greed, Carelessness, unpatriotism, and the Act to behave below the expectations of its masses and the International Community, in Relation to Spirit of The National Constitution, other Legal Principles, Codes, Conducts, Ethics and Norms in the Court Settings, as it is Today in our society, specifically, the Court of Laws of Sierra Leone …’’
If Justice is to be serious and Trust Worthy, The Sierra Leone Judicial System could have been the best, if not the best in the world at most, but would have by now been counted among the First Five Countries with the Best Judicial Systems in the world.
Not because it is inscribed upon the foot plates of our National Coat of Arm, and not engraved upon our Hearts (Unity, Freedom and Justice), but because, Sierra Leone has hosted the Earliest Court System as early as the ending of Slave Trade in the Sub Region.
The Court of Mixed Commission (the Vice Admiralty Court in 1807), was instituted in Sierra Leone, to try and Punish, all those that were still involved in the Atlantic Slave Trade, along the Atlantic Coast of Africa, which brought in the Combined name Freetown, from the divisional entitive names of Cline town, Province of Freedom and Kissy etc, as safe heaven for Receptive Slaves.
Also, in the First Decade of the 21st Century, Sierra Leone, with the United Nation, after a Decade long Senseless War, instituted the Special Court in 2002, to Try, not only Sierra Leonean insurgents, but also, Liberians and the rest of Warlords in the Sub Region of Africa, not mentioning the Capacity to train, Well Qualified Professional Lawyers, many among whom have cut across Africa.
But, on the Unfortunate Contrary, the said experiences, the professional codes, conducts, ethics and seriousness in the performance of this noble job, is said to have become prolifilited, and transformed into a ‘’Con -Game,’’ and the Court room, a ‘’Play Ground for Con-men,’’ fraught with much Prevarications, Perversions, endless adjournments, Tippings etc.
It has Nursed a Stem of Distrust, Lost of Confidence, and the multiplicity of Untrust Worthiness, nursed by the lack of conclusions of Decade long cases, let alone, the series of Corruption Scandals and Honest Proves, by the Anti Corruption Commission and other NGOs of Cheating from Government fines.
