Teaching human rights principles, civics, peace and nonviolence through information communication technology (ICT)
The OLPC proposal is intended to train Children Information Communication Technology, between the ages of 6 to 14 years in Primary Schools, located in and around the Capital Freetown.
They will be taught the Basic knowledge in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), with their lesson notes and exercises, drafted and based purely upon the Principles and Disciplines of Human Rights, Civic Educations and Non-Violent measures.
There will be 10 Centres to be established by HURRARC’s Tuition and Research Department and its Partners, for the use of each group (or Centre) in a cluster of five primary schools, located in a closed proximity, or a locality.
The project is basically intended to train 600 Pupils in the use of XO Computers in the Capital Freetown and its environs, as the first face of the project, known as the Pilot Stage.
Each of the Ten Centers will be used by children from the five (5) neighboring Schools, each School sending in six (6) Boys and six (6) Girls, for daily trainings, for both morning shifts and afternoon shifts.
However, it will move further to the Secondary schools and Tertiary institutions of both the capitals and the interior of the country, Sierra Leone in 2011, as the second face, which is known as the Final Stage.
That is to say, that though this Pilot stage is purely meant for the Primary Schools, yet we are conscious that there is the big gap in the knowledge of both the secondary and Tertiary level students, in not only the ICT, but in Human Rights, Civics and Non Violence issues
