Kono district covers 5,641 Km2 of land divided into 14 Chiefdoms and the capital is Koidu Town, in the east of Sierra Leone. Kono borders the Republic of Guinea in the East, the Koinadugu district to the North, the Tonkolili district to the West and the Kenema district to the South.

Although the situation of Human Rights is improving in the country especially in Freetown, there is still a lot to do to improve the situation of Human Rights in provinces notably in Kono district, where there are many cases of violence perpetrated against the most vulnerable groups such as children, women and girls and extremely poor people.

Therefore, we Human Rights activists have come to a conclusion that there is a high need to open a Human Rights Information and Development Center empowered with facilities for sensitizing, educating and informing Kono people about Universal Human Rights, by prioritizing the protection of children against violence and illegal labor.

We strongly believe, the best way of addressing human rights issues is to attack them by priorities. Thus, for the first two years, the priority of the center will be TO ADVOCATE FOR THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AGAINST VIOLENCE AND CHILD LABOR.
